SUPERINTENDENT’S CORNER

A Message to the D16 Community

It is an honor and a homecoming to serve as the Superintendent of District 16. I am a proud product of this community, built in Bed-Stuy, shaped by our schools, and deeply committed to the children and families who make this district extraordinary. Having served as a teacher, founding principal, Deputy Superintendent, and now Superintendent, my journey has been grounded in love, service, and an unwavering belief in the brilliance of every child who walks through our doors.

District 16 is a district rich with culture, history, and resilience. Our vision is to ensure that every student thrives in joyful, rigorous, and culturally responsive learning environments led by educators who know them, value them, and push them to excel. We are strengthening instruction, nurturing strong school cultures, expanding opportunities, and building systems that reflect our core belief: when schools are coherent, communities are empowered, and students are truly seen, excellence follows. This year, we will continue working to attain our goals within these two metrics while focusing on literacy across all subject areas in alignment with Chancellor Banks’ NYC Reads to ensure that literacy and reading are our core focus.

As we move forward together, I will continue to listen deeply, partner authentically, and lead boldly. Our work is grounded in collaboration with families, educators, students, and community partners because lasting success requires all of us. I am grateful for your trust and partnership, and I am excited for the future we are building together. District 16 is rising, and our children are at the center of everything we do.With appreciation,District 16 has bold goals to ensure that each of our students has access to bright futures. We are preparing students for success and building capacity across our district 16 team of educators, leaders, and parents to pass the baton. In doing so, we will focus on high quality instruction in literacy and mathematics, continue providing high quality IEP services, focusing on attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism, while being responsive to parent and community needs. It is all hands-on deck as we lead to succeed. We cannot do this work alone and we invite you, our parents and families and community stakeholders, to join us as we lead with empathy and equity to facilitate the interconnected engagement that grows and expands excellence in our students, ourselves, and our community.
